EISENHOWER, Dwight D. Crusade in Europe

Description

SIGNED LIMITED FIRST EDITION OF CRUSADE IN EUROPE, ONE OF ONLY 25 PRESENTATION COPIES SPECIALLY BOUND FOR EISENHOWER IN FULL MOROCCO-GILT AND TWICE SIGNED BY EISENHOWER

EISENHOWER, Dwight D. Crusade in Europe. Garden City: Doubleday, 1948. Thick octavo, original full blue morocco, gilt and inlay sword centerpiece, raised bands, cartographic endpapers, top edge gilt, uncut, original morocco-edged slipcase.

Signed limited first edition, one of only 25 copies specially bound for presentation in deluxe full blue morocco-gilt and signed by Eisenhower on the half title, out of a total edition of 1426 copies, signed by Eisenhower at the bottom of a facsimile of his D-Day message to Allied troops.

Eisenhower’s memoir provides an important and unique perspective on the difficult command-level decisions that decided the outcome of World War II. Included are numerous battlefield and theater maps (a number in color), as well as photographs selected by Edward Steichen. This copy is one of 25 copies specially bound in morocco for presentation and signed a second time on the half title out of a signed limited edition of 1426 copies. This is indicated, in part, by the limitation pages of the 1400 linen-bound copies of the signed limited edition, which note that the complete edition consisted of 1426 copies, but that only 1401 were sold. The morocco-bound copies, such as the present copy, are not numbered. Owner blindstamp on half title.

Book with minor rear inner paper hinge reinforcement, binding handsome and fine.  A most desirable twice-signed special presentation copy, one of only 25 such copies. Quite rare.
