SIGNED FIRST EDITION OF CAPOTE’S CLASSIC BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S, LARRY MCMURTRY’S COPY, SIGNED AND DATED BY HIM IN THE YEAR OF PUBLICATION
CAPOTE, Truman. Breakfast at Tiffany’s. A Short Novel and Three Stories. New York: Random House, (1958). Octavo, original canary yellow cloth, original dust jacket.
First edition of the adventures of free-spirited Holly Golightly, signed by the author on the front free endpaper. From the personal library of famous novelist Larry McMurtry, signed and dated by him in the year of publication above Capote’s signature.
“If you want to capture a period in New York, no other book has done it so well? He could capture period and place like few others” (Norman Mailer). With three other stories: “House of Flowers,” “A Diamond Guitar,” and “A Christmas Memory.” This copy formerly belonged to famous novelist Larry McMurtry, author of such classics as Terms of Endearment and Lonesome Dove. McMurtry signed the book and dated it 1958, an indication that he purchased it when new. The publication of his first novel, Horseman Pass By, would follow three years later. Book with light offsetting to endpapers, mild toning and rubbing to spine, moderate soiling to boards. Near-fine dust jacket with light fading to spine, light soiling to bright front panel, faint evidence of sticker removal to rear panel. A near-fine copy, scarce signed by Capote and with a noteworthy literary association.
