Description
PRESENTATION COPY OF UNDER THE TONTO RIM, INSCRIBED BY ZANE GREY TO HIS SON
GREY, Zane. Under the Tonto Rim. New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1926. Octavo, original green cloth, original dust jacket.
First edition, boldly inscribed by the author, “To Loren from Dad, Zane Grey, Altadena, Dec 4 1926.”
“Grey’s novels refined the popular image of the cowboy… In their day, Grey’s books sold better than had any works in U.S. history, with the exception of the Bible and McGuffey’s Readers” (ANB). This copy inscribed by Grey to his son Loren in Grey’s permanent hometown of Altadena, California. When Grey’s wife gave birth to their second son on November 20, 1915, “she and Zane decided to name him Zane too. Several months later they reconsidered and named him Loren instead, a decision made so close to the issuance of the birth certificate that Zane had to be crossed out and Loren penned in above it” (Pauly, 156).
A near-fine copy, exceptionally desirable inscribed from the author to his son.
