Description

FIRST EDITION OF THE HUMAN FACTOR, INSCRIBED BY GRAHAM GREENE

GREENE, Graham. The Human Factor. London: Bodley Head, (1978). Octavo, original green cloth, original dust jacket.

First edition in first issue dust jacket, warmly inscribed: “For Andrew, with great affection, from Graham, Antibes, May 17, ’81.”

In The Human Factor, “the reader enters the guilty man’s mind and sees how love led him into a situation that, even if he escapes physically – as he does – must morally destroy him. The criminal rather than the crime, the sinner rather than the sin, are Greene’s ultimate concerns” (Reilly, 701). Basis for the 1979 film by director Otto Preminger with screenplay by Tom Stoppard. First issue dust jacket, with author’s name printed in red and blue over title. Miller 57a. Inscribed by Greene from his home in Antibes, where the writer moved in 1966 for tax purposes and to be closer to Yvonne Cloetta, a woman with whom he had an affair for the remainder of his life. Owner bookstamp.

Book fine; slightly toned spine and very light edge-wear to near-fine dust jacket.
